Measure the inside diameter of your existing cap’s collar, not the outside. That’s the number that matters. DuraFlex caps use a slip-fit design over the liner, so the collar size has to match your liner’s outside diameter within about an eighth of an inch.

DIY or Call Us?
If you want to check a few things from the ground, go ahead. Look for visible tilting, rust streaks, or a missing mesh screen. You can also peek up into the flue with a flashlight from the firebox to check for daylight where there shouldn’t be. But actually swapping a chimney cap means getting on a roof, and we don’t recommend that unless you’re comfortable with ladder work and your roof pitch is low. Chimneys on steep second-story runs are dangerous, especially after rain or in the fall when roof surfaces in Waterford stay damp well into the day.
Where DIY usually goes wrong on this job is the seal.
