DuraFlex Fireplace Services Nationwide

Every visit starts with

Level 1 sweep and inspection to the NFPA 211 annual standard - flue, crown, cap, and flashing checked and photographed

Worth knowing

Chimney sweep logs do not sweep chimneys. They loosen some creosote - which then falls where a brush and vacuum still have to collect it.

How DuraFlex Products Fail - and How We Fix Them

DuraFlex makes solid products. We install them, so we’re not going to bad-mouth the brand. But every product line has its predictable trouble spots, and after 29 years in Waterford chimneys, we know where they live. Here’s what we actually find when a DuraFlex system starts acting up.

  • DuraFlex Pro liner seam separation on offset runs: Waterford chimneys often have offsets, especially in capes and split-levels near Oswegatchie Hills. When a Pro series liner runs a slight angle through an offset, repeated heating and cooling can work the seam loose about seven to nine years in. You’ll notice a faint metallic rattle on windy days, or a draft that just doesn’t pull like it used to. We re-secure the seam, but more importantly we correct the angle so it doesn’t happen again in three years.
  • DuraFlex SW trim plate gasket flattening: The SW series is common in Waterford fireplace inserts. The gasket behind the trim plate flattens over time, especially on the side closest to the firebox. That lets room air slip past and cool the flue gases. Symptom: the fire burns fine for twenty minutes, then you get a lazy flame and a wisp of smoke that appears and disappears. Most crews would cite a draft problem and leave it. We check the gasket first because on this line, that’s usually the whole story.
  • Condensation corrosion at the liner bottom in insert applications: DuraFlex double-wall flex holds up well, but in Waterford’s humid summers with a fireplace sitting idle, condensation collects at the liner’s lowest point, right above the insert collar. By October, that surface rust can look alarming. Most of the time it’s cosmetic, but we will put a camera up there and show you before anyone quotes a replacement liner. Half these calls end with a cleaning and a “check it again next year.”
  • DuraFlex cap collar clamp loosening on exposed chimney tops: Waterford gets real nor’easters, and chimney caps take the brunt. On DuraFlex flex-to-cap transitions, the clamp that holds the cap collar to the liner top vibrates loose season after season. You’ll hear it as a high-pitched clank when the wind changes direction. We tighten, reseal, and add a second set screw where the design allows it. Fifteen-minute fix, but it sounds like the chimney is about to collapse if you don’t know what it is.
  • Warped rain cap mesh on older DuraFlex terminations: The mesh on older DuraFlex caps can warp after years of heat and coastal damp. When it warps, it gaps. When it gaps, birds get in. Waterford has starlings that would love to nest in your flue. We replace the mesh or the cap assembly, whichever the damage dictates, and now use a reinforced mesh that holds shape longer.

Our DuraFlex Fireplace Services Process

  1. 1
You call (860) 390-4899. A live person answers, any hour. Wendell grew up in San Diego before the trade pulled him east, but he has spent enough years in New England to know nobody enjoys a voicemail box at 7 p.m. on a December night.
  2. 2
We schedule a window that actually holds. We give you a real arrival window and we call if anything slips. The sweep who shows up is background-checked, in uniform, and knows DuraFlex product because he has installed it and torn it out.
  3. 3
We diagnose with a camera, not a guess. Every DuraFlex fireplace service starts with a camera run. You’ll see exactly what we see, and Wendell will tell you in plain English what it means. If the liner is fine and the flue just needs cleaning, that’s what you’ll hear.
  4. 4
We price before we touch. Once we agree on the fix, you get one number for the whole job. No mysterious add-ons. When the question is OEM versus quality aftermarket parts, we lay out both prices and tell you when the aftermarket part is every bit as good, which with DuraFlex it sometimes is, and when it isn’t.
  5. 5
We do the work, test it, and show you the results. After any repair, we run a draft test and a final camera pass. You can see the before-and-after footage yourself. Nobody leaves a Waterford home with a fireplace we haven’t verified.
  6. 6
Written 90-Day Done Right Promise on every single job. If something isn’t right, one call brings Wendell back. We’d rather fix it than argue about it.

What DuraFlex Fireplace Services Costs in Waterford

  • DuraFlex fireplace service and inspection: $89-$189. Camera run included. If nothing is wrong, that’s the whole bill.
  • DuraFlex SW gasket replacement: $120-$220 depending on insert access and trim plate size. Most parts are in stock or two days out.
  • Liner seam repair or cap collar reseal: $180-$380. Access drives this. A straight shot from the firebox up is cheaper than a scaffold setup on a steep Waterford roof.
  • Partial liner section replacement: $450-$950 depending on the run length and which DuraFlex series is installed. We carry Pro and SW sections on the truck and can usually avoid a second trip.
  • Full fireplace insert flue package (liner, insulation, cap, connector): $1,800-$3,200 installed. Big range because Waterford homes vary wildly in chimney height and liner condition. You’ll get one number before the job, and it stays that number.

What moves the price most: chimney height, roof pitch, and whether the existing liner is spliced or original. Call (860) 390-4899 for an exact quote. Estimates are free, and if you have a competitor’s written estimate, we’ll give you a free second opinion on it. Plus, $40 off any repair over $200, and 10% off always for seniors and veterans.

Why Waterford Homeowners Call Top Hat Chimney for DuraFlex Work

We’re not a franchise that rotated through Waterford last spring. Top Hat Chimney has been owned and operated by Wendell Pike since 1999, and we’ve been inside more flues in southeastern Connecticut than we can count. Your DuraFlex system has company in this town; we’ve sweeps, serviced, and rebuilt enough of them to know this line’s temperament, quirks and all.

We work with all the major venting brands: DuraFlex, HeatShield, Gelco, and Olympia Chimney among them. That matters when your fix needs a product match or a warranty-safe alternative. If a DuraFlex part is backordered, we know what we can substitute without voiding your coverage, and more importantly, what we cannot. Cribbage losses aside, Wendell is thorough.

Your flue doesn’t care how the fire looks. It cares how it breathes. And you deserve a verdict you can verify with your own two eyes. The camera footage and a plain-English verdict - every time, no exceptions.
